Fantasy Football Impact of Returning Refs
Early Thursday morning the NFL and the officials Union announced they had agreed in principle to an 8 year deal. The deal would allow the “Real” Refs to return to the field for tonight’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. Although the agreement still needs to be ratified with a 51% vote of the officials 121 members, it is expected to be ratified.
With the return of the official Officials fantasy players have to be aware of the on field ramifications. Of course, there will be better control of time-outs and challenges, which should limit some extra plays from happening. But, the big impact will come on the field.
Jerome Simpson Back From Suspension
The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson has served his suspension. After sitting out the first 3 games of the regular season, Simpson looks to step into the starting line up opposite Percy Harvin. At 6’2″ and roughly 200 pounds Simpson is a perfect counterpart to the smaller Harvin and should be a fantasy contributor early on.
Simpson is not worth of a starting Fantasy Football spot, but he’s got an NFL size frame and can work well in the Minnesota system, especially with how well Christian Ponder is playing. As soon as Ponder and Simpson develope chemistry, expect Simpson to become a versatile deep threat for the Vikings.
Week 4 Players to Add
In the ever changing world of Fantasy football, it is vital to know what is happening around the NFL and what effect that has on its players. For example, 4 years ago, many people thought Tashard Choice was a valuable fantasy sleeper and could challenge for carries in Dallas. Well, that never happened, however, now Choice is a incredibly value fantasy addition with C.J. Spiller going down. Can the same be said for Daniel Thomas?
Week 4 players to add:
Jerome Simpson: Back from a three game suspension for violating the NFL drug policy, Simpson will step in right away as the number two receiver in Minnesota. Simpson is the perfect counterpart to the Vikings #1, Percy Harvin. As Christian Ponder continues to develop, Simpson and he should be able to connect on a few down field strikes a game. Pick him up now and stash him away, in two weeks you’ll have a diamond (thanks Ferris for allowing the butchered quote).
Armon Binns: Binns has shown solid hands, above average route running and has the faith of Andy Dalton. He has solidified himself as the number 2 man in Cincinnati and that should continue. As long as the Bengals are airing out the ball, expect Binns to stay on his 10 – 12 point per week performances.
Post Week 3 Drop List
Despite some major production value late in games this past week, none of the players below should be taking up roster spots in standard 10 team leagues. One or two of them may still be worth holding on to in deeper leagues, but below is a pretty safe bet on who you won’t be playing the rest of the season. Drop these guys quickly and get in on the waiver wire to pick up some other Fantasy Football relevant talent.
Time to go….
Marcedes Lewis: He played for a paycheck. He got his paycheck. Now he looks like the TE version of Albert Haynesworth. Next.
Issac Redman: You can get one more play out of him if you must, but it won’t be a great one. There is no question that he will wind up as the #3 back behind Rashaard Mendenhall and Johnathan Dwyer when healthy. Which may not be this week, but soon.
Early Injury Reports From Around the League
We’ve got our first round of injury news coming out of Week 1 of the NFL season. Very few fantasy football viable players are among those under concern. The list is headlined by Greg Jennings of the Green Bay Packers. Jennings is suffering from a groin injury suffered against San Francisco and his availability to play on Thursday against the Bears is in question.
| PLAYER | TEAM | Injury | Report |
| Fred Jackson | BUF | Knee | All accounts have Fred Jackson sitting out at least 3 weeks (Jackson has said he’ll be back in 4 weeks). C.J. Spiller is the back up. Moving up to the number 2 back with be former Cowboy running back Tashard Choice (may want to keep an eye on him) |
Players to Drop back to Free Agency
With so many Fantasy Football players losing their minds after one week, many will be considering adding free agents. To do so means you must cut players on your team. Here is our list of 11 players that can safely be cut to add a new stud player from the NFL pool of Free Agents.
| PLAYER | TEAM | Report |
| Rashad Jennings | JAX | Jennings was limited in his duties week one because of an injury, oh yeah, and Maurice Jones-Drew is back and shows no affects from his hold out. Let the man go. |
| Kendall Wright | TEN | Wright looked a bit out of sorts early in the Patriots game, but began picking up Regular Season speed over the course of the game. I’m not sure I would release Wright just yet. I can see him on the Add list in 2 or 3 weeks |
Players to Add from the Waiver Wire
Several players are being considered for free agent waiver wire additions after the first week of NFL action. The Fantasy Football world explodes with excitement after the first week. Many players will over react to a slow start and look to cut players that they “know have lost a step” in favor of the flavor of the week. Read below the Top 11 added players and what you can expect from them.
| PLAYER | TEAM | Report | Grade |
| Kevin Ogletree | DAL | As the slot receiver in Dallas Ogletree will continue to see plenty of playing time and should be a viable low-end 2/high end 3 Fantasy Receiver. A safe play. | B |
Recent NFL Signings and Transactions – August 15th
Below is a list of recent NFL players to be signed/traded/released.
Biggest news is the TE signing in Dallas, as he will be there to help take the pressure off of Jason Witten as he recovers from a torn spleen (Chris Simms is available for moral support). The Cedric Benson signing in Green Bay has the most fantasy football relevance at the moment, as he should come in as the starter. The best signing in recent days may be the Tennessee Titans signing of a run stopping Defensive Tackle in mammoth Michael Jasper.
Obviously the biggest name on the board is former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson. Johnson served his purpose in Miami, he got ratings into HBO’s Hard Knocks and then was let go. The alleged spousal abuse didn’t help his chances of sticking around either.
| Name | Position | Status | Previous Team | 2012 Team |
| Jasper, Michael | DT | Signed | Buffalo | Tennessee |
| Alama-Francis, Ikaika | LB | Signed | Miami | San Francisco |

Recent NFL Signings and Transactions
Below is a list of recent NFL players to be signed/traded/released.
The biggest name on the list is Terrell Owens who is taking his talents to the Great Northwest. On Tuesday Terrell signed a 1 year, $1 million dollar deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Coach Pete Carroll is excited about the opportunity and said it was likely that T.O. would start early on this season.
