Fantasy Football Impact of Returning Refs

Early Thursday morning the NFL and the officials Union announced they had agreed in principle to an 8 year deal.  The deal would allow the “Real” Refs to return to the field for tonight’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.  Although the agreement still needs to be ratified with a 51% vote of the officials 121 members, it is expected to be ratified.

With the return of the official Officials fantasy players have to be aware of the on field ramifications.  Of course, there will be better control of time-outs and challenges, which should limit some extra plays from happening.  But, the big impact will come on the field.

Ryan Grant set to sign in Washington

Free agent running back, Ryan Grant, will be joining the Washington Redskins.  The 30-year old free agent and former Green Bay Packer will be working as the backup to rookie Alfred Morris.  With Roy Helu out with a foot injury and Evan Royster suffering from a patella injury the Redskins can use the veteran for much needed depth.

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers week 2 match up

This is one of the nastiest rivalries in the sport, perhaps any sport, and can yield some truly ugly match-ups. On paper, with key injuries on both sides, notably Charles Tillman and Brian Urlacher (who will probably start) for the Chicago Bears, and Greg Jennings severely limited, if playing at all, with a groin injury.

Aaron Rodgers is a sure start, just like he always is. He is simply the most reliable player in fantasy football right now. Win or lose, he will get his. As far as the receivers are concerned, I would look for a big day from Jordy Nelson, and especially Jermichael Findley. The last two meetings between the clubs, he put up four TD’s, and the Bears really do not have a counter for him yet.

San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers Recap

Take Aaron Rodgers number one overall in all fantasy football formats.  Yeah we said that.  And Rodgers looked good, granted, we all want Rodgers to look great, but he did put up 303 yards, on 30/44 passing, with 2 TD’s (JerMichael Finley, and James Jones) and 1 pick.  The overall production value of Rodgers looks fine on paper, but the on field performance does live up to those pedestrian Rodgers numbers.  The Green Bay quarterback was consistently throwing the ball into small windows, giving little chance for his receivers to make a play on the ball.

Shannon Eastin – Replacement Ref

Shannon Eastin is scheduled to officiate Thursday nights game between the San Diego Chargers, and the Green Bay Packers in San Diego.  There had been rumors that Eastin would call the opening preseason game for the NFL season, Arizona Cardinals vs. New Orleans Saints in the Hall of Fame Game.  However these rumors appear to have been only speculation.  The NFL announced on Monday that Eastin would referee an NFL preseason game and it would be in Week 1 of the preseason.

According to the NFL commisioner Roger Goodell, Eastin will not be the last female to officiate in the National Football League.   Although no time table has been set for when the next female offical will be welcomed, many are speculating that if the NFL and the NFLRA (National Football League Referee’s Association) do not come to terms in the near future, more female refs could come really soon.

Eastin has spent the last 10 years officiating in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and will be the first female to officiate an NFL game either regular season or preseason.
