Former Saint Tracy Porter Joins Denver

Tracy Porter the former New Orleans Saints Corner Back has agreed to a 1yr 4 million dollar deal with the Denver Broncos. Porter reportedly will start opposite veteran corner Champ Baily.

Porter brings much needed youth to the secondary in Denver, we still expect to see them pick up another corner back in the draft, possibly early on with a selection like Dre Kirkpatrick or Stephon Gilmore in the first round. More than likely though the will look for a hard nosed smash mouth Defensive Tackle to take the pressure of their outside pass rushers Elvis Dumervil and 2nd year stud Von Miller.

Tebow Time? Not so fast Tim.

The Denver Broncos have come out publicly and said that Kyle Orton is no longer on the trading block, and Tim Tebow may not be in the Broncos future going forward.

Orton has been taking most of the snaps with the first string so far, and Brady Quinn has been working heavily with the second string offense.  It appears that the Denver Broncos have finally realized what they had all along; a solid number 1 quarter back in Orton.

Denver had stated early this preseason that Tim Tebow would be the starter this year and many NFL experts agreed that it was the right move for the franchise.  However once players got into camp and John Elway and John Fox had an opportunity to see Tebow v. Orton, the decision was fairly obvious.  Tim Tebow’s mechanics are not NFL caliber and Kyle Orton is one of the most underrated QB’s in the league.

Too many people have placed the blame for the Broncos poor performance last year on Orton’s shoulders, but a quick look at game tape from last season clearly shows that Peyton Manning throwing to Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald could not have won in Denver with their pathetic defensive plays.

With Orton finally being recognized for his skill set; where should he go in your fantasy draft?  The Answer, he’s a top 10 fantasy QB, he is in the same ball park as Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Schaub.  Don’t believe me, check out his numbers over the last two years and compare them to the players mentioned.  If you don’t want Orton over at least two of those players you need to reconsider your draft strategy.

NFL free agent action on Saturday

A busy day of Free Agent and Draft Pick signings through the NFL.  Arizona Cardinals came to terms with Patrick Peterson, The Philadelphia Eagles continue to destroy the Free Agent market by signing Collen Jenkins,  oh and this Manning guy signed a $90 million dollar deal (a steal at twice the price).

There have been several teams that have come across as big winners so far in Free Agency.  The Eagles and Patriots, obviously, Seahawks have been active, Carolina Panthers resigned an army of talent and even the Chicago Bears brought in a few talented players in the last 48 hours.  The striking thing is the teams that are doing absolutely nothing to improve themselves.

The Denver Broncos have done little to help their 4-12 record of a year ago.  They have created a quarterback controversy, traded away their number 2 wideout and thus far have added Willis McGahee to bolster their running attack.  This is a team in desperate need of offensive line help, they need to get younger in the secondary and could really use a presence in the middle to suck up blockers to allow first round pick Von Miller to come off the edge without being double teamed.  I can not figure out what is the thought process in Denver, but they seem to be overly concerned about trading Kyle Orton and not about the improvements they need.

Other teams to fail to fill in rosters spots when they’ve had the chance are the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers.

Eddie Royal… Available in 48% of leagues

Denver Broncos WR Eddie Royal put ups a monster day, 113 yards and a Touchdown.

Kyle Orton has shown he can get the ball down field, and Royal has the speed to take any catch to the house. Eddie Royal has not looked this good since mid-season 2008.

Cowboys former LT visits Broncos

Dallas Cowboys former pro-bowl Left Tackle Flozel Adams meet with brass from the Denver Broncos. The Broncos who may be without the services of dominating Tackle Ryan Clady as he recovers from off-season knee surgery.

Adamas was released by the Cowboys last month and has been in contact with several teams.

I’m reminded of Orlando Pace last season. A former great Tackle that now is too old and too beaten up over the years. Adams performed well last season, with the exception of some dirty play against the Giants, especially Justin Tuck.

Tim Tebow jumps up one spot

Tebow passed Tom Brandstater on the Broncos Depth chart. This should mean the Brandstater is either cut or stuck on the practice squad. I can’t see the Broncos carrying 4 qbs into the season, and with McDaniels love for Tebow this was an obvious move.
