Atlanta Falcons at Kansas City Chiefs Recap

A riveting first half of football the score was tied until Matt Bryant hit a 21 yard field goal with :10 seconds left before the break.  Atlanta would not look back as the dominated the second half of the game.  Matt Ryan looks, after one game, like he has taken the mythical next step in a quarterback’s maturation.  Ryan completed 23 of his 31 passes and tossed three into the end zone.  Thankfully for the Falcons, Matty Ice had an amazing game, because the ATL running game left much to be desired.  Backs, Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers, averaged 3 yards a carry on a combined 18 carries.

Broncos Respect the Vets : Sign Brooking and Leonhard

The Denver Broncos are serious about making a run deep into the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl this year.  They added veteran talent on offense with the additions of Peyton Manning and Brandon Stokley, and now they’ve done it on defense.

The Broncos added former Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboy linebacker Keith Brookings on Monday.  Brookings who recorded 3 starts and played in all 16 games for Dallas registering 50 tackles last season, likely will step in as the starting middle linebacker in Denver, pushing Joe Mays back on the depth chart.

Eagles Samuel Flys Away

Asante Samuel leaves the Philadelphia Eagles and heads south to play the Dirty Birds down in Atlanta.  The new Falcon corner will join yet another packed secondary with Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes.   The possibility being that Robinson will slide back to safety and allow Samuel to come in at the starting corner spot.  Philadelphia received only a seventh round pick for the former shut down corner, but having Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha left Samuel on the outside looking in.

Samuel agrees to restructure his contract and by doing so gets a 3 year 16 million dollar extension.

The Rebuilding Beings

With the expectations of several suspensions baring down on the New Orleans Saints the need for them to rebuild the defense becomes a must of this offseason.

The Saints took great steps in that direction Saturday night with the acquisition of former Atlanta Falcons Linebacker Curtis Lofton. Lofton will help solidify a Saints defense that may still look to add more depth in the linebacker corp. Talk of Seattle Seahawk’s David Hawthorne joining New Orleans has been thrown around. If the Saints add Hawthorne as well, expect the same ole Saints team to win the NFC south one more time, as they will have successfully battled against “BountyGate”.
