Early Injury Reports From Around the League

We’ve got our first round of injury news coming out of Week 1 of the NFL season.  Very few fantasy football viable players are among those under concern.   The list is headlined by Greg Jennings of the  Green Bay Packers.  Jennings is suffering from a groin injury suffered against San Francisco and his availability to play on Thursday against the Bears is in question.

PLAYER TEAM Injury Report
Fred Jackson BUF Knee All accounts have Fred Jackson sitting out at least 3 weeks (Jackson has said he’ll be back in 4 weeks).  C.J. Spiller is the back up.  Moving up to the number 2 back with be former Cowboy running back Tashard Choice (may want to keep an eye on him)

San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders Recap

Who likes ugly football?  Appearently the Oakland Raiders do.  The Raiders v. San Diego Chargers match-up was doomed from the moment that Raiders Long Snapper, Jon Condo, went down.  When back-up Snapper Travis Goethel came in, things started to unravel for the Raiders.  Two low snaps and a poor job of blocking on a third punt led to three punts being blocked.  The Blocked punts left San Diego in firm control of field posision with little the Silver and Black could do to recover.  The bright spot for the Raiders was Darren McFadden.

Seriousness of Gates foot injury

San Diego Chargers all-everything tight end visited a North Carolina foot specialist, the same doctor who has treated several Gates foot injuries over the year. Gates who had a standout season last year with nearly 80 catches over 1100 yards and 8 td’s triggered a lot of Fantasy owners paranoia after word came out that he was seeing the foot specialist yet again.

Gates came out and told Jay Paris of the North County Times:
“Just taking precautionary action because of the struggles in the past and all the things I have been through,” Gates said Friday at Chargers minicamp. “It never was a major problem; it was something I wanted to make sure wasn’t any worse.”

As the news comes out looks like Gates and Gates fantasy lovers can keep him penciled in as the #3 TE in the game, behind Vernon Davis and Dallas Clark. (Brent Celek may slide into top 3 if Kolb appears to be NFL caliber QB)
