Josh Johnson to San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers have signed Josh Johnson. Johnson formerly the back up to Josh Freeman in Tampa Bay agreed to terms on a 2 year deal.

Patrick Willis v. Beanie Wells

Recently on ESPN.com their NFC west blogger Mike Sando posted a comment detailing how the more productive player this year would be Beanie Wells over Patrick Willis.  Sando discusses two plays from a San Fransisco 49ers Arizona Cardinals game from last year.  In that game Wells was able to break a 24 yard run on 3rd down and later had a one run carry to close the drive with a TD.  Yes it true that Wells was able to make a few plays last year, however the discrepency here is determined by the overall level of Patrick Willis play.  Wells benefited last year from a high powered offense that often kept opposing defenses in 3 or 4 defensive back sets.  With the openning in the middle of the field created by multiple receiver sets, Wells, was able to elude single linebackers and bowl over opposing DB’s.

Wells maybe a lot of Fantasy junkies sleeper back because of 5.3 yards/carry average, this will not be the case for Wells this season.  Beanie is still going to be sharing carries with Tim Hightower and a depleted receiver corp and a so-so offensive line leads Wells to be a Fantasy BUST possibility.
