Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens Recap

The Baltimore Ravens dominated the ball on both offense and defense.  The Ravens defense, which was questioned due to age and injury, showed that they have the same swagger that Ray Lewis brings to Old Spice commercials.  Ed Reed had a masterful interception and return for a touch down that broke the backs of the Bengals players and fans.  Joe Flacco had an amazing day against a very strong secondary throwing for 299 yards and 2 Touches (Anquan Boldin and Dennis Pitta) on 21 of 29 attempts.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos Recap

So, who wants to talk about the Denver Defense?  That’s the big story coming out of the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers game right?  Its not?  Alright, we’ll mention that Peyton Manning returned to football after 20 months away, and that he looked like Peyton Manning from 20 months ago.  Peyton was efficient and totally in control of the offense, going 19 of 26 for 253 yards and 2 scores.  Manning’s stat line is not earth shattering,

San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers Recap

Take Aaron Rodgers number one overall in all fantasy football formats.  Yeah we said that.  And Rodgers looked good, granted, we all want Rodgers to look great, but he did put up 303 yards, on 30/44 passing, with 2 TD’s (JerMichael Finley, and James Jones) and 1 pick.  The overall production value of Rodgers looks fine on paper, but the on field performance does live up to those pedestrian Rodgers numbers.  The Green Bay quarterback was consistently throwing the ball into small windows, giving little chance for his receivers to make a play on the ball.

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals Recap

OK, so Kevin Kolb is the starter going into preseason, till the first series, when he gets hurt, then its John Skelton.  Skelton wins the job out right until the first game, when he goes down with a low ankle sprain and Kolb comes in and wins the game.  Anyone else just running as fast as they can away from any and all Arizona Cardinals?  The Red Birds offense looked disjointed at best absolutely confused at worst.  Arizona carried the ball 20 times, for only 44 yards, as the offensive line was unable to open any holes for the backs.

Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Recap

How old is Ronde Barber.  I swear, this kid plays like a 22 year old, after I’m pretty sure he’s been in the league for 22 years (OK its only 16 years).  Barber had a key interception, sack and a vital stop of Cam Newton.  The Bucs defense was absolutely flying under new head coach Greg SchianoJosh Freeman controlled the ball well (not fantasy viable) throwing for 138 yards on 24 attempts, completing 16 of them.  Rookie running back Doug Martin lived up to expectations, he carried the ball 24 times for 95 yards.

Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans Recap

Rookie quarterbacks in abundance on Sunday for the opening week of the NFL season.  In Houston it was, Ryan Tannehill stepping into the fire, and man did he get burned.  Tannehill was sacked three times, and pressured 4 more, and while avoiding the stress of a dynamic Texans defense managed to throw three picks in the game.  The rest of Miami’s offensive squad was just that, offensive.  Daniel Thomas, Reggie Bush and Tannehill all fumbled balls (only 1 was lost), the receivers could not make a play down field despite a respectable 11 yards per completion.  The defensive side looked strong.  Miami’s run defense held Houston to just 2.4 yards per carry, although Arian Foster was able to punch it in, twice.

On the Texans side of the field this was a great warm up game.  There was never a point where Houston was in fear of losing the game and the play calling showed it.  Matt Shaub was able to find Andre Johnson for a 14 yard touchdown late in the second half to give Houston a 24 – 3 lead.  Once AJ put the ball in the end zone the mood of the offensive play calling changed dramaticly.  In the second half Houston played a solid clock controling strategy and great team defense.  Its important to remember that this was only Miami, and they are going through a lot of changes at the moment, but Houston seems to have all the tools to put something great together.

Washington Redskins at New Orleans Saints Recap

A lot will be written about how great RG3 played in his career debut, and rightfully so, however Robert Griffin III did not win this game for the Redskins.  Griffin, who became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history (w. 10+ attempts) to finish a half with a perfect passer rating (158.3).  Lost in the news of the win on Sunday was the cost, Pierre Garcon left the game with a foot injury.  RG3 did look good completing 19 of his 26 attempts for 320 yards and 2 touch downs.

Buffalo Bills at New York Jets Recap

No one saw the 48 point onslaught from the New York Jets coming.  Mark Sanchez looked like the franchise quarterback the Jets thought he would when they traded up to get him.  The Sanchize threw for three scores, two to rookie Stephen Hill, and tallied 266 yards passing while going 19 of 27 above ground.  The Jets even managed to get Tim Tebow involved, giving the back up quarterback 5 carries, he gained 11 yards.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Minnesota Vikings Recap

The Jacksonville Jaguars had the opportunity to beat a bad Minnesota team, and they did everything possible to do so, until the final whistle blew.  Rookie kicker for the Vikings, Blair Walsh, crushed a 55 yard field goal (would have been good from 60) to tie the game as time expired.  Blair would then go on to nail the game winning 38 yard kick with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Atlanta Falcons at Kansas City Chiefs Recap

A riveting first half of football the score was tied until Matt Bryant hit a 21 yard field goal with :10 seconds left before the break.  Atlanta would not look back as the dominated the second half of the game.  Matt Ryan looks, after one game, like he has taken the mythical next step in a quarterback’s maturation.  Ryan completed 23 of his 31 passes and tossed three into the end zone.  Thankfully for the Falcons, Matty Ice had an amazing game, because the ATL running game left much to be desired.  Backs, Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers, averaged 3 yards a carry on a combined 18 carries.
