Early Injury Reports From Around the League

We’ve got our first round of injury news coming out of Week 1 of the NFL season.  Very few fantasy football viable players are among those under concern.   The list is headlined by Greg Jennings of the  Green Bay Packers.  Jennings is suffering from a groin injury suffered against San Francisco and his availability to play on Thursday against the Bears is in question.

PLAYER TEAM Injury Report
Fred Jackson BUF Knee All accounts have Fred Jackson sitting out at least 3 weeks (Jackson has said he’ll be back in 4 weeks).  C.J. Spiller is the back up.  Moving up to the number 2 back with be former Cowboy running back Tashard Choice (may want to keep an eye on him)
Rashad Jennings JAX Knee Still being evaluated, Jennings has already been replaced by Maurice Jones-Drew.  MJD looked good on Sunday and opens the door to waive Jennings in favor of a waiver wire pick-up.
Daniel Thomas MIA Head Thomas suffered a concussion on Sunday.  There has been no timetable for his return set as he still needs to complete a battery of neurological tests.  Reggie Bush is the lead back and looks good.  Thomas may be expendable.
Greg Jennings GB Groin Listed as Day to Day (aren’t we all), Jennings did not participate in Tuesdays practice and we do not expect him to go on Wednesday.  He still has the talent to produce without practicing, but I’d be hesitant on the play.
Jeremy Maclin PHI Hip Maclin suffered a hip injury in Sundays game against the Browns, however the details are still foggy.  The exact extent of the injury has not been released, which either means its not serious, or that Andy Reid is doing his best Bill Belichick impression.  I’m not worried about him and have him starting this week
Pierre Garcon WAS Foot The description given from Mike Shanahan is “its kinda when you have turf toe, except its not the toe.”  That sounds to me a lot like possibly plantar fasciitis.  If it is, Garcon can miss easily 6 weeks while this painful injury heals.  Stay posted, we will know more by Thursday.
Jake Locker TEN Shoulder Locker’s injury was to his non-throwing system, and Jake is a tough kid.  The Titans are saying he’s questionable but I’m sure he plays.
Antonio Gates SD Ribs Yes, Gates has some sore ribs.  But this is Antonio Gates and he won’t let sore ribs keep him out of action.  Start him freely.
Ryan Mathews SD Shoulder Mathews has not been cleared for full contact yet, and I don’t see San Diego rushing to get him on the field.  Hold Mathews on your Bench, I expect a week 4 come back.
Kenny Brit TEN Knee 3 Knee surgeries in the off-season, with work done on both knees.  He was only cleared to practice on the 28th of August.  The suspension is behind him, and I expect him to be on the field, but may not see more than 20 snaps or so.
