Buffalo Bills at New York Jets Recap

No one saw the 48 point onslaught from the New York Jets coming.  Mark Sanchez looked like the franchise quarterback the Jets thought he would when they traded up to get him.  The Sanchize threw for three scores, two to rookie Stephen Hill, and tallied 266 yards passing while going 19 of 27 above ground.  The Jets even managed to get Tim Tebow involved, giving the back up quarterback 5 carries, he gained 11 yards.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Minnesota Vikings Recap

The Jacksonville Jaguars had the opportunity to beat a bad Minnesota team, and they did everything possible to do so, until the final whistle blew.  Rookie kicker for the Vikings, Blair Walsh, crushed a 55 yard field goal (would have been good from 60) to tie the game as time expired.  Blair would then go on to nail the game winning 38 yard kick with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Atlanta Falcons at Kansas City Chiefs Recap

A riveting first half of football the score was tied until Matt Bryant hit a 21 yard field goal with :10 seconds left before the break.  Atlanta would not look back as the dominated the second half of the game.  Matt Ryan looks, after one game, like he has taken the mythical next step in a quarterback’s maturation.  Ryan completed 23 of his 31 passes and tossed three into the end zone.  Thankfully for the Falcons, Matty Ice had an amazing game, because the ATL running game left much to be desired.  Backs, Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers, averaged 3 yards a carry on a combined 18 carries.

New England Patriots at Tennessee Titans Recap

The New England Patriots once again won on opening day.  The Patriots have been a model of consistency in the seasons first fight, winning the last 9 straight season openers, currently the longest streak in the league.  This New England group did its damage on Defense.  The Pats defense forced 2 turn overs and holding the Titans to only 16 total first downs in the game.  Tom Brady was his usual consistent self, passing for 236 yards and 2 Touch Downs while completing 23 of 31 throws.  Of course Brady found his favorite red zone target connecting with Rob Gronkowski on a 2 yard TD right before the end of the first half.  Fellow Tight End Aaron Hernandez also found the end zone at the end of the first quarter to account for both of Brady’s touch downs.  A surprise performance for the Pats, running back Stevan Ridley contributed 125 yards on the ground on 21 carries and added 1 rushing touch down.

Detroit Lions at St. Louis Rams Recap

Another dismal game for fans in St. Louis.  Matthew Stafford started off the game with the worst first half performance of his career, throwing for 3 interceptions.  Stafford was able to connect with Calvin Johnson on 6 throws for 111 yards, however Megatron was held out of end zone.  Detroit Lions starting running back, Kevin Smith managed a solid day with 62 yards on 13 carries with a score, he also added a receiving touch down in the final minutes of the game to give Detroit the win.  Take the interceptions out of the equation and Stafford had a solid day going over the 350 passing yards in the game, although he did only have the 1 touch down pass to Kevin Smith.

Indianapolis Colts at Chicago Bears Recap

Indianapolis Colts at Chicago Bears:

The Bears offense started a similar way to what Chicago fans have been used to for the past few years, poorly on Offense and stead-fast on Defense.  The first couple of series for the Bears saw a sack on the first play, and the Chicago Bears second possession ended with a pick 6 from the Chicago 4 yard line for Jerrell Freeman.  Chicago rebounded after the early mistakes, Matt Forte broke two long runs (31, 15) setting up a Michael Bush 1 yard score.

Maurice Jones-Drew on the field

The Jaguars running back Maurice Jones Drew is back with the team and practiced for the first time on Monday.

All accounts have MJD in great shape and ready to contribute as early as week one.  Rashad Jennings will still be the starter for week one, however MJD should be a viable option come week 3.

Seahawks look to trade Tarvaris Jackson

TJax on the move again?  Quite possibly.

The Seattle Seahawks head coach, Pete Carroll, has limited Tarvaris Jackson’s snaps over the last 2 weeks, and has already stated that he will not play in this weekends preseason game against the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning.  Jackson did not play last week against the Tennessee Titans either.

Rumor has it that Carroll is looking to move Jackson to a team in need of a back up quarterback.  The asking price for Jackson has not been made public, however we can assume that if traded he will fetch nothing more than a 5th round pick at best.

Shannon Eastin – Replacement Ref

Shannon Eastin is scheduled to officiate Thursday nights game between the San Diego Chargers, and the Green Bay Packers in San Diego.  There had been rumors that Eastin would call the opening preseason game for the NFL season, Arizona Cardinals vs. New Orleans Saints in the Hall of Fame Game.  However these rumors appear to have been only speculation.  The NFL announced on Monday that Eastin would referee an NFL preseason game and it would be in Week 1 of the preseason.

According to the NFL commisioner Roger Goodell, Eastin will not be the last female to officiate in the National Football League.   Although no time table has been set for when the next female offical will be welcomed, many are speculating that if the NFL and the NFLRA (National Football League Referee’s Association) do not come to terms in the near future, more female refs could come really soon.

Eastin has spent the last 10 years officiating in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and will be the first female to officiate an NFL game either regular season or preseason.
