Philadelphia Eagles at Cleveland Browns Recap

Wow, some how, some way, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled out a win versus the lowly Cleveland Browns. In what was an exceptionally ugly game through-out, Michael Vick managed to rally his team with a Touch Down pass to Clay Harbor with just under 1:20 to go.  Vicks final 91 yard drive to win the game was really the only time in the game where he looked comfortable, Vick finished the game 29 of 56 for 317 yards with two Touch Downs and four INTs.

Happy Madden Day

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012.  Happy Madden Day.

For those of you who know, John Madden 13 was released today, offically at midnight.  Good gaming all!

This years cover boy is Calvin Johnson, which has fantasy football fans who know the backstory a bit nervous.  I for one stayed away from Megatron in all but one of my Fantasy Drafts.  Why?  Because of the Madden Curse.  Now I’m not one for myths and legends fables or curses, however, this one I believe in.

The New England Patriots have won the Jeff Demps lottery.  The team signed the former U.S.A. Olympic track star was given a $11,000 signing bonus and $200,000 in guaranteed money for coming in and competing for a position in the last 2 weeks of training camp.

Jeff Demps competed with the United States Olympic team this summer in London, England.  He was a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay team that earned a Silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games.

Recent NFL Signings and Transactions – August 15th

Below is a list of recent NFL players to be signed/traded/released.

Biggest news is the TE signing in Dallas, as he will be there to help take the pressure off of Jason Witten as he recovers from a torn spleen (Chris Simms is available for moral support).  The Cedric Benson signing in Green Bay has the most fantasy football relevance at the moment, as he should come in as the starter.  The best signing in recent days may be the Tennessee Titans signing of a run stopping Defensive Tackle in mammoth Michael Jasper.

Obviously the biggest name on the board is former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson.  Johnson served his purpose in Miami, he got ratings into HBO’s Hard Knocks and then was let go.  The alleged spousal abuse didn’t help his chances of sticking around either.

Cedric Benson signs 1 year deal with Green Bay Packers

In an excellent move for a franchise in need of a physical running back, the Green Bay Packers inked Cedric Benson, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears, to a one year deal.  ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that Benson has signed but as of now no details have been disclosed.

Chad Johnson Released by Miami Dolphins following Arrest

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin stood his ground as the moral leader of the Dolphins.  Just a day after Chad Johnson was arrested for allegedly head butting his wife (he claims it happened the other way around), Johnson was released by the Dolphins.  Chad Johnson had been listed on the Dolphins depth chart as the number 1 wide receiver, and through one episode of the HBO reality series “Hard Knocks” looked like the Chad Johnson of 2008.

Recent NFL Signings and Transactions

Below is a list of recent NFL players to be signed/traded/released.

The biggest name on the list is Terrell Owens who is taking his talents to the Great Northwest.  On Tuesday Terrell signed a 1 year, $1 million dollar deal with the Seattle Seahawks.  Coach Pete Carroll is excited about the opportunity and said it was likely that T.O. would start early on this season.

Broncos Respect the Vets : Sign Brooking and Leonhard

The Denver Broncos are serious about making a run deep into the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl this year.  They added veteran talent on offense with the additions of Peyton Manning and Brandon Stokley, and now they’ve done it on defense.

The Broncos added former Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboy linebacker Keith Brookings on Monday.  Brookings who recorded 3 starts and played in all 16 games for Dallas registering 50 tackles last season, likely will step in as the starting middle linebacker in Denver, pushing Joe Mays back on the depth chart.
