Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Recap

How old is Ronde Barber.  I swear, this kid plays like a 22 year old, after I’m pretty sure he’s been in the league for 22 years (OK its only 16 years).  Barber had a key interception, sack and a vital stop of Cam Newton.  The Bucs defense was absolutely flying under new head coach Greg SchianoJosh Freeman controlled the ball well (not fantasy viable) throwing for 138 yards on 24 attempts, completing 16 of them.  Rookie running back Doug Martin lived up to expectations, he carried the ball 24 times for 95 yards.  Mike Williams looked crisp in his route running and was able to find an opening on a 6 yard Touch Down catch with 5 minutes left in the first quarter.  Two, Connor Barth, field goals gave the Buccaneers a 13-0 lead at half time, and the Bucs went into clock control for the remainder of the game, which limited Freeman’s production.

For Carolina, Concerns of a sophmore slump for Cam Newton looked very possible early on.  The Panthers running game never took off, the team combined for 10 yards on 13 carries.  Newtons numbers on paper look decent, 23/33, 303 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, however his game management and decision making looked slow and not in sync with the rest of the offense.  Panthers defenders seemed confused early on as Tampa Bay was able to come out with 8 straight completions to start the game, including passes to three new weapons in the Bucs arsenal.  Doug Martin (rookie), Vincent Jackson (FA-SD) and Dallas Clark (FA-IND) all caught passes on the drive leading to the Mike Williams Touch Down in the first quarter.
