Washington Redskins Breakdown
Robert Griffin III will have a better rookie season then Andrew Luck. Write that down in ink, it’s the truth. RG3 may be the most exciting player to enter the NFL since Michael Vick. He has top end QB speed, throws a better deep ball than Vick and has a better understanding of NFL defenses than Vick had even 5 years into his career. RG3 will produce fantasy numbers this year.
With offensive weapons of Pierre Garcon, Santana Moss, Josh Morgan and tight end Fred Davis, Griffin III will be able to move the ball around easily. The running game will limit some of the play calling options, although Roy Helu showed signs he could carry an NFL team, and with contributions from Tim Hightower it will really depend on the blocking of the Offensive line to determine what kind of offensive production the Redskins will have this year.
Helping RG3 on his road to instant stardom is the horrid Washington defense. Playmakers like Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan and London Fletcher in the Linebacker corp does not make up for below average coverage in the secondary, and a D-line that cannot create their own pressure. This will leave the Redskins in plenty of shootouts this season, which, much like it did for Cam Newton last year, will allow Bob (thanks Osi) to fling the ball around at will. I would not be surprised to see Griffin put up 3,400 yards and 28 TD’s, he’ll still have rookie woes and that will lead to 18 picks, but for a rookie, great numbers.
