Minnesota Vikings Breakdown

Even A.P. is not All Day this year.   Christian Ponder looks to be the starting Quarterback.  The number one receiver is Percy HarvinAdrian Peterson is hampered by ACL/MCL surgery this offseason and may start the season on PUP list.  The defense is led by a beast in Justin Allen, but there is not much behind him to help out.

The Vikings are in a rebuilding mode, and this one will take some time.  They lack the front office and scouting to make themselves drastically better from the draft.  Although the addition of Matt Kalil, who signed on Thursday, is a start, the process by which the Vikings went through to sign him screams of ineptitude by management (still using offset clauses in contracts, nearly no other NFL club still uses this as a negotiating tactic).  Coupled with the inability to lure free agents to a dilapidated stadium, leaves the Vikings clinging to life in possibly the toughest division in the NFL, the NFC North.

There are going to be plenty of opportunities for Vikings players to put up fantasy numbers, since they will be playing from behind the vast majority of the year.  Having said that, I would not hitch my wagon to any Vikings player, a late round flyer on Toby Gerhardt might not be a bad call if A.P. cannot go, or maybe the late-mid round pick on Percy Harvin.  But this is not the year to bank on Peterson, and there is nothing else in the cupboard to pick from.
