2012 NFL Fantasy Football Mock Draft #1

Working the Wire has put out its first Mock Draft of the 2012 NFL Fantasy Football Season.

Some interesting notes about this draft:

  1. Neither Robert Griffin III or Andrew Luck were taken
  2. For the second year in a row, Quarterbacks went 1 (Aaron Rodgers) 2 (Tom Brady).
  3. The teams that “look” the best coming out of the draft, all focused on Receivers early and running backs late.
  4. For the first time in my Fantasy Football career, two tight ends were taken in round 2 (Rob Gronkowski (12th overall) and Jimmy Graham (16th overall).
  5. Surprisingly, no one took Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson, or Plaxico Burress.  But Randy Moss did get grabbed.

The First three rounds were lighting fast, reminded most of us of the NFL draft this season.  After the initial rush, choices became much more difficult, the Draft itself lasted just over 2 hours, with the last 3 rounds going just as fast as the first 3 rounds.

Teams 1 – 5

Rodgers and Brady go 1 & 2 which did not surprise us.  Arian Foster falls to 5th overall.  The major sleeper in the first 5 teams may not be that big of a sleeper once the pre-season ends, Brian Quick from St. Louis has looked great this offseason and a breakout performance in any of the remaining preseason games will solidify him as the dominate number one receiver in St. Louis, no matter how the other Steve Smith does.

The biggest talk of the Mock Draft was, Kenny Britt.  No one could decide how to handle him, is he an number 1 receiver for the last 3/4 of the season, or is he a malcontent with injury issues.  He eventually went in the 8th round, which seems about right, but there were teams who would not have touched him with the 16th pick.
